BriefThe MOD identified a need for lightweight shelter that would be able to be erected in a short time providing battlefield logistics support. In partnership with a design and build company Custom Covers developed a structure to meet this requirement and were awarded the contract. DesignThe structure has to allow rapid erection in the field, provide a light-proof enclosure and be air transportable. This led to the adoption of a linked truss beam with kader grooves for attachment of the fabrics. ManufactureThe challenge to cut and weld the door sheets was overcome by careful production planning ensuring that the numerous attachments to the sheets were added in the correct sequence. An innovative Kader zip was also developed to allow an easy method of opening the door to allow passage of the aircraft. |
