Design Custom Covers worked with VT Shipbuilding ( now BVT Surface fleet) to develop a design of ceremonial awning that maximised the usable area of flight deck, whilst keeping the packing volume of the awning to a minimum. The design had to comply with the strict MOD specifications. This ensures that the awning does not preset any hazard to the ships crew in timeof conflict. The awning also had to be simple to install, dismantle and stow and be maintainable by the ships crew.

Fabrication The finished awning was manufactured using aluminium posts with stainless steel wire supports. A weatherproof cover in 12oz canvas keeps the elements out and an inner lining softens the look and feel of the framing and wires. The Awnings were designed to connect to the fligtht deck hanger. This was achieved through the use of a tensile transition piece and associated linings. The interconnection of the awning and the hanger gives approximately 340 square metres of covered space. This Photo shows the interior space achieved with the awning and its lining. |
